Environmental impact
 |
Few
problems are less recognized than the accelerating damage we
inflict to our environment. All nations, trying to improve the
quality of their lifestyles, are fast becoming partners with
the industrial world consuming the natural environment. Based
on existing technologies, for every person in the world to reach
present industrialized countries’ levels of consumption
would require four more planets the size of Earth. With the
world population set to double by the end of this century, it
would then require eight more planets. But we only have one
planet to live on. It is well-known that for a PET bottle to
fully disintegrate in the natural environment it takes about
800 years. The piles of waste are adding up and taking up upon
our vital space. If we are to survive and thrive on this small
planet with its limited resources of water, land, and clean
air, we must be wise, we must think forward. |
| Taking into consideration these
arguments, in order to meet these vital needs of all mankind,
GreenFiber International S.A. has developed its investments
and is now able to clean the Romanian soil of 2 billion PET
bottles per year (300,000 bottles per hour).
In the Eastern Europe, the custom of using PET bottle wastage
for producing high quality fiber has not been settled yet
so in countries such as Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia,
Ukraine is completely missing. Our future projects go beyond
the borders of Romania and are about to bring environmental
benefits to the entire Central and Eastern Europe.
(POZA) For some years people have been engaged in a debate
of economy-versus-environment. In giving this phrase a better
look its falsity is obvious. Clearly, to survive and prosper,
we must have both a good economy and a healthy environment.
Even so, it is difficult to shake off the old assumption that
we must agree to tradeoffs, that we must sacrifice something
positive in one to gain something positive in the other.
|
 |
Today there
is heartening news. This old assumption also has been proven
false. "Sustainability" is not the enemy of profitability.
Just the opposite is true. Sustainable products are competitive
and more profitable in the marketplace
In the economy of the 21st century the definition of "sustainable"
products is taking on a clearer and fuller meaning. In their
entire life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials through
to final use, these products win out over conventional products
on their environmental and social merits and are more profitable.
This "triple bottom line" provides a profound value.
Public health and the environment benefit. Consumers benefit.
Workers and entrepreneurs benefit. Society benefits on a global
scale.
|
| All these ideals we stand
for. All our struggle is aimed at giving a positive example,
in setting the first stone to the basement of the future industries
that will no more burry us in a pile of waste but will turn
this waste into profit for the investors, into hundreds of
new jobs for the communities, into a healthier environment
for our children. |
